A Ukrainian maternity hospital was hit by Russian rockets on Wednesday night and reportedly destroyed.

In the attack an infant was killed and doctors were seriously injured, Ukrainian officials said, according to the New York Post.

“RF crimes are insane. This night, maternity hospital in Zaporizhzhia region became target. 2 days old boy died…” Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska said on Twitter.

“Horrible pain. We will never forget and never forgive. My sincere condolences to the loved ones of the baby. Speedy recovery to the injured. Our hearts are with you.”

The hospital was located in Vilniansk, near the city of Zaporizhzhia.

“At night, Russian monsters launched huge rockets at the small maternity ward of the hospital in Vilniansk,” regional governor Oleksandr Starukh posted to Telegram along with photos of smoke coming out of the remains of the destroyed hospital.

“Grief overwhelms our hearts – a baby was killed who had just seen the light of day,” he said.

“A baby who was only two days old was killed, doctors were injured, one of whom received severe burns,” he added in a second post. “Shelling hospitals and killing children are the realities of Russian terrorism.”

Photos of the attack were also posted by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensyy, who said that there were likely survivors still pinned under the rubble.

“The enemy has once again decided to try to achieve with terror and murder what he wasn’t able to achieve for 9 months," he said.

The head of the Ukrainian presidential office Andriy Yermak said that Ukraine would retaliate.

“Justice will smell them out by their rot. They will be held accountable for every Ukrainian life they take or break,” he said.
