Israel's Health Ministry on Thursday morning said that 489 new coronavirus cases were diagnosed Wednesday, out of 39,661 test results received.

The new numbers show that 1.3% of coronavirus tests were positive, compared to 1.0% on Tuesday and 0.9% on Monday. The infection coefficient rose to 0.64 - the highest it has been in the past few weeks.

The number of serious cases, however, has continued to drop, and now stands at 385 coronavirus patients. Of these, 214 are in critical condition and 187 are on ventilators.

So far, 6,214 coronavirus patients have died of the disease.

Though Israel's vaccination campaign is ongoing, the vast majority of those being vaccinated are receiving their second dose, and nearly all of those who have received the first vaccine have also received their second: Out of 5,244,481 Israelis who have received their first dose, 4,785,534 have received their second dose as well.
