Former Interior Minister Gideon Sa'ar (Likud) on Sunday spoke about the "two-state solution."
Speaking at the Jerusalem Post Conference, Sa'ar said, "The two-state solution - which is no more than a buzzword - is no longer relevant. After eighty years on paper and twenty-five years of negotiations, it's been proven unrealistic."
"Creating a Palestinian state in the heart of Israel will cause Israel severe security and demographic problems, but it will not create a sustainable state and a better future for the Palestinians.
"This is the time to think of other ideas for a regional solution, in which the Palestinian Authority's self-rule will be less than complete sovereignty."
Sa'ar also expressed hope that the current US administration will not repeat its predecessors "mistakes" and thanked US President Donald Trump for his decision to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem.
"President Trump showed leadership when he recognized the truth - that Jerusalem is Israel's capital, always has been, and always will be" he said. "And now we see that additional countries are following the US' lead."
Sa'ar also thanked US Jewry for its support of Israel, saying the support is "part of Israel's national security" and calling for a deepening of the relationship and the forging of additional bonds between US and Diaspora Jewry and their brothers in Israel.
"We are all one nation, with a shared destiny," he said, emphasizing that Israel is stronger thanks to the support of Diaspora Jewry, and Jews everywhere in the world are stronger thanks to Israel's existence and strength.
