An IDF soldier was moderately wounded by a bullet that was discharged during an exercise in southern Israel on Monday evening.

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit stated that the soldier was evacuated for medical treatment in a hospital. His family has been notified.

The circumstances of the incident are unclear and will be investigated.

In July, a soldier was lightly wounded when a bullet was accidentally fired at a base in central Israel.

Also in July, Lieutenant David Golovenchich, 22, was killed by an accidental firearm discharge during a training exercise at the Gilber checkpoint in Hevron.

The commander of the Central Command, Major General Roni Numa, appointed a committee of experts to investigate the incident. The Military Police opened its own investigation into the incident.
