United Nations Secretary General António Guterres will begin his three-day official trip on Monday.
On Monday morning, Guterres visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum. From Yad Vashem, Guterres travel to the President's House and meet with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, following which he will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
A senior source said Netanyahu will discuss Iran's takeover of Syria, Hezbollah's growing strength in Lebanon, and Israel's concern regarding the missile factories Iran is building on Lebanese soil.
Guterres will also meet with Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu).
Both Netanyahu and Liberman are expected to discuss the issue of expanding UNIFIL's (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) authority in Lebanon.
This week, UNIFIL is expected to renew its mandate in Lebanon. US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, meanwhile, is pushing for changes to UNIFIL, since they have "an embarrassing lack of understanding on what’s going on."
In addition, Arutz Sheva has discovered that Guterres himself will demand certain things of Israel. During his visit, Guterres intends to visit Gaza-area communities, as well as Gaza itself. He will pressure Netanyahu to lift the "siege" on Gazan residents. However, Guterres' visit to Gaza may not end up happening, due to security concerns.
In April, a cancer patient crossing from Gaza into Israel hid explosives in a cancer machine.
On Tuesday, Guterres will visit Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, and hold a press conference with him.
On Wednesday, Guterres will end his trip by speaking at Tel Aviv's Beit Hatfutsot Musuem.
He will also meet with the families of kidnapped and murdered Oron Shaul, and missing Avraham Mengistu. Guterres will tell the families that he supports their struggle, but that the UN does not have ties with Hamas and therefore cannot help return their loved ones.
IDF soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul, were killed in Gaza during 2014's Operation Protective Edge. Their bodies have been held by the Hamas terrorist organization in Gaza since then.
Mengistu is a mentally unstable Israeli citizen who crossed the border into Gaza in late 2014 and is being held there by Hamas. Little is known about the fate of Mengistu and, while Hamas has acknowledged that Mengistu was in Gaza it stopped short of confirming it was hold him.
