Dozens of Israeli parents demonstrated on Saturday night in front of Education Minister Naftali Bennett's (Jewish Home) home.
On Saturday night and Sunday, Israel celebrates Lag Baomer - but school will only have vacation on Monday.
In the central town of Even Yehuda, protesting parents closed down three schools in protest of the decision - and to avoid transportation problems caused by the bus reallocation.
In addition, a group of parents filed a High Court petition against the Education Ministry last Monday.
The High Court petition was filed by eighteen parents, including MK Ayelet Nahmias-Verbin (Zionist Union), and requested either that the vacation day be moved back to Sunday, or that both Sunday and Monday be designated as vacation days.
Originally, the school vacation day was set for Sunday, but due to pressure from the Chief Rabbinate to avoid Shabbat (Sabbath) desecration, the Education Ministry decided at the last minute - just three weeks before Lag Baomer - to postpone the vacation day until Monday.
As a result of the decision to hold school on Lag Baomer, 600 buses which would ordinarily bring students to and from school were needed to bring visitors to Meron.
