Israeli Border Police were attacked Monday afternoon outside of the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hevron by two knife-wielding Arab terrorists.

The terrorists were both shot and neutralized, during their attack – one fatally. One Border Police officer was lightly wounded in the course of the attack.

Reports indicate that the two terrorists, residents of the city, had set out for the holy site with the intention of carrying out a terror attack on Israeli soldiers positioned at a checkpoint next to the entrance to the Tomb.

At the checkpoint the two terrorists aroused the suspicions of the soldiers, who ordered them to halt. The suspects did not heed the order and continued to approach the soldiers. One terrorist drew his knife and lunged that soldiers.

The Border Police at the scene quickly opened fire, neutralizing the first suspect. The second then drew his knife as well and was also shot.

One terrorist was killed on the spot, while the second was badly wounded and is in critical condition. One Border Police officer was lightly wounded in his arm during the attack.

The attack in Hevron comes just hours after a stabbing attack in the Old City of Jerusalem left two Israeli police officers wounded – one in serious condition.
