Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush, son of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, has made a three-day visit to Israel, his first overseas trip since taking elected office last year, The Associated Press reported Monday.

According to the report, Bush met last week with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. His spokesman, J.R. Hernandez, told the news agency Bush "expressed his strong support for Israel" while thanking Netanyahu "for all he is doing to fight terrorism."

The pair discussed possible Texas-Israel partnerships on issues including technology and desalinization, according to AP. Bush also visited an Israeli desalination plant.

During the trip, Bush also met with the Israeli defense ministry's head of rehabilitation. The land commissioner coordinates Texas' veterans' outreach efforts.

Hernandez said the trip was paid for by Israel's foreign affairs ministry, the Republican Jewish Coalition and Bush campaign funds.

Bush's uncle and grandfather are former presidents. His father, Jeb, ran for the Republican presidential nomination this year, but eventually suspended the campaign after several primary losses.

While he was seeking the Republican nomination, Jeb Bush advocated for strengthening ties between the United States and Israel.

“The first thing that we need to do is to establish our commitment to Israel which has been altered by this administration,” Bush said. “And, make sure that they have the most sophisticated weapons to send a signal to Iran that we have Israel’s back. If we do that, it’s going to create a healthier deterrent effect than anything else I can think of.”

Also, in an interview with Fox News, Bush took the Obama administration to task for what he said was the drawing of a "moral equivalence between Palestinian terrorists and Israel."
