Right-wing activist Meir Ettinger is set to be freed this Wednesday after spending eight months in administrative detention.
Ettinger, a grandson of Jewish Defense League founder and former MK Rabbi Meir Kahane, has been held in isolation with no indictment or allegations of specific crimes.
A holdover from the British Mandate period, administrative detentions may be ordered against any individual the defense establishment feels may pose a threat to state security.
Ahead of Ettinger’s release, a series of additional administrative orders have been issued, restricting his movements after he is set free. Ettinger will be forbidden from entering Judea and Samaria for one year. He will also be banned from Jerusalem and the town of Yad Binyamin for half a year.
In addition, Ettinger will be prohibited from leaving his home at night for four months.
Aside from the limitations placed on his movements, Ettinger will be barred from contacting 92 specific individuals listed in the new administrative order.
Ettinger’s attorney, Sima Kochav from the Honenu organization, criticized the restrictions on Monday, saying they violated his civil liberties.
“The Shin Bet (Israeli Security Agency) has decided to continue to restrict him with administrative orders and to keep him in house arrest at night, and to distance him [from certain areas]. In addition, he has been forbidden to contact a large number of people.”
“The continued use of administrative orders against Ettinger constitutes an unreasonable infringement on his civil liberties, his dignity, and his family. The persecution of Ettinger is entirely because of his views, a fact that is totally unacceptable. This is a genuine dictatorship that crushes the rights of citizens.”
