MK Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism) slammed Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid on Sunday, arguing he should return to journalism and say goodbye to politics.

In an interview with The Marker, the Knesset Finance Committee chairman attacked the current state budget as well the gas outline, before turning his attention to the former finance minister.

Gafni asserted he had spoken to Lapid a number of times during the current term and that the centrist politician had no understanding of the political system despite his avowed desire to become prime minister

"He has no sensitivity to what is needed in a democratic regime," Gafni blasted. "He's not suited for the political system, he needs to [return to being] a journalist."

"In the field of media, he is excellent. In the field of public service and politics, he isn't worth anything," Gafni continued. "I'm glad he's no longer finance minister and Shai Piron is no longer education minister."

Gafni also slammed Lapid for his apparent antipathy toward haredim during his tenure as finance minister, in which he cut child allowances and imposed a mandatory draft on the community.

"Lapid mercilessly hit the haredi community," Gafni said. "What he did to us exists only in a dictatorial regime, not in a democracy. What did he think - that we would evaporate and cease to exist?"
