Army Radio Commander Yaron Dekel has invited Culture and Spots Minister Miri Regev to tour the military station in the wake of harsh criticism railed by Regev against the army's music station Galgalatz.
In an interview last week, Regev claimed that "it's not acceptable that at an army station, most of the songs are in a foreign language." According to her, Galagaltz "does not give enough a stage to Israeli music."
Responding to the criticism, Dekel tweeted: "I spoke this morning with the Culture Minister and invited her to visit Galgalatz, the most listened to and beloved station of IDF soldiers, which has been named Israel's most popular radio station."
However, Regev maintained, in an interview with Yedioth Ahronoth, that the station does not provide enough of a variety of the musical streams in Israel. "Even Arik Einstein has been barely played on Galgalatz in recent years," she said.
According to Regev, Galgalatz is not connected to the musical preferences of a majority of IDF soldiers.
"How can it be that a military station does not reflect soldiers' tastes? It's absurd. I met with artists and singers who gave me a wide range of examples Galgalatz has excluded in recent years, including those whose success is proven, though the station ignored them."
Galgalatz responded that "Miri Regev is a welcome and honored guest at Army Radio and Galgalatz. However, keep in mind that Galgalatz is the most listened to radio station among IDF soldiers, and a national survey published just yesterday proves it."
