Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy S3 smartphone in London on Thursday. The new phone features a 4.8 inch (12.2cm) screen, an increase on the 4.3 inch screen of its predecessor.
The company said in a statement that the Galaxy S3 is a phone designed for people and inspired by nature. The new smartphone has voice recognition and allows a user to share special moments with others instantly and easily.
Other features on the S3 include an 8 megapixel camera on the rear, and a 1.9 megapixel front camera for video calls.
The phone also uses what is described as a “natural language user interface” dubbed S Voice. Samsung said, according to a BBC report, it was a major improvement on the voice control features it included on earlier models.
The facility can be used to command the phone to play songs, adjust the volume, send texts or emails and take photographs.
Some of the accessories of the Galaxy S3 include the AllShare Cast Hub, a technology which allows content on the Galaxy S3 phone screen to be shared with a nearby TV or projector. AllShare Cast Hub can interoperate with a HDMI-enabled TV or projector via AllShare Cast.
Samsung’s original flip cover enhances the overall value of the Galaxy S3 with a premium metallic design. A one-piece back cover and sleek design maintain the phone’s slim profile. Other than providing main colors matched with the phone’s design, Samsung will also launch a variety of vivid colors for casual users. A receiver opening on the front cover allows the user to call directly in state of closing the cover easily.
Another accessory for the Galaxy S3 is C Pen, a capacitive type stylus pen exclusively optimized for Galaxy S3’s touch screen. It has a fine aluminum body matched to Galaxy S3’s metallic design, and features a thin rubber tip. The 3mm sensitive tip provides precise writing and drawing on the screen. A sleek and smooth finish ensures easy grip and portability.
Users of the Galaxy S3 can also accessorize the phone with the Wireless Charging Kit, a technology-leading accessory item enabling users to charge their phone without having to connect any wires. It enables charging of the phone using resonant wireless charging technology. To charge the battery, the user just needs to replace the wireless charging cover and place the phone on the pad.
The Galaxy S3 comes with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The S3 will be available in two colors, pebble blue and marble white, and the firm said that other options will be available at a later date.
The new phones will be available from the end of May in Europe. Launches in Asia, the Middle East and Africa will follow. A 4G version will go on sale in the U.S. and South Korea in the summer.
