MK Prof. Aryeh Eldad (National Union) asked the Attorney General Sunday to initiate criminal proceedings against Meretz Director Dror Morag and other activists who entered supermarkets and placed stickers on products made in Judea and Samaria.
Eldad’s HaTikva party (which is part of the NU) filed a complaint with police against Morag and other Meretz activists.
The complaints are based upon the law that forbids collusion to harm another person’s business. They are not based on the Anti-Boycott Law that passed in the Knesset last week but has yet to go into force, and will have to withstand a High Court hearing first.
In his letter to the AG, MK Eldad wrote that while the act by Meretz was intended as a protest against the Anti-Boycott Law before the High Court hearing, “the Meretz Director and his activists who came to harm the produce of the settlements appear to have forgotten the criminal code that even now deems conspiracy to hurt another person’s livelihood as a crime punishable by two years’ imprisonment.
By marking produce from Judea and Samaria, Eldad wrote, Morag and the other activists attempted to damage the livelihood of residents of Judea and Samaria.
The stickers have reportedly only boosted sales of the marked products. A nationalist group announced it would also mark Judea and Samaria products, as a show of support.
Anti-Israelis have been campaigning against Israeli products for years.
