An Israeli woman and her crippled dog surprised Europeans - and herself – by winning a difficult competition at the recent German Schutzhund competition. Schutzhund is German for guard dog and is a popular sport in Germany and the rest of Europe.
Sharon Ronen, from Moshav Ometz, told Arutz Sheva she was surprised when at the end of the competition for discipline and the ability of dogs to prove their abilities to defend, the Israeli flag was raised and the HaTikvah anthem was played.
“This is the largest competiton I ever entered, and it was the first major event for the young dog,” she related.
“The dog is handicapped, with one of his front legs having been partially rehabilitated through physiotherapy. I entered a highly respected competition with a crippled dog who is entirely unknown and had hardly any chance of winning.”
She paid for the trip out of her own pocket, but after the Israeli flag was raised and the national anthem was heard, she said, “I knew it was worth the effort."
