Moshe Zar, one of the key pioneers of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, passed away at age 88.

In the late 1970s, Zar purchased land on which Barkan, Ma'ale Shomron, Karnei Shomron, and the Haredi city of Emmanuel were later established.
