The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Palestinian Authority-assigned areas of Judea and Samaria has more than doubled in a week, the PA “health ministry” said on Monday.

According to the announcement, 142 new infections were recorded over a 24-hour period, "the highest rate in a single day" since the start of the outbreak.

A week ago, the “health ministry” reported 430 cases but by Monday the number of cases had more than doubled to 903.

On Sunday, the PA reported 49 new COVID-19 cases in Judea and Samaria, 46 of which were confirmed in the district of Hebron and three others in Shechem (Nablus) and Tulkarem districts.

The PA has witnessed a new wave in the spread of the deadly virus over the past 10 days, which forced the PA cabinet to declare a new set of restrictive measures, banning public gathering and putting Hebron and Shechem under a lockdown.

On Friday, PA health authorities warned that a second wave of the novel coronavirus has begun, urging the public to follow the government's instructions.
