The Palestinian Authority (PA) on Sunday reported 49 new COVID-19 cases in Judea and Samaria, bringing the total number of infections to 1,028, the Xinhua news agency reported.

According to a statement by the PA “health ministry”, 46 new cases were confirmed in the district of Hebron, raising the tally of infections in the district to 401, of which 76 have fully recovered.

The three other new cases were found in Shechem (Nablus) and Tulkarem districts.

All of the patients are in stable condition except for one case from Hebron that was admitted into intensive care unit, the ministry said.

The PA has witnessed a new wave in the spread of the deadly virus over the past 10 days, which forced the PA cabinet to declare a new set of restrictive measures, banning public gathering and putting Hebron and Shechem under a lockdown.

On Friday, PA health authorities warned that a second wave of the novel coronavirus has begun, urging the public to follow the government's instructions.

Both the Palestinian Authority in Judea and Samaria and Hamas authorities in Gaza recently eased most of the precautionary measures against coronavirus.

Mosques, churches, restaurants, hotels, cafes, wedding halls, and public parks and gardens were opened after a complete lockdown for around three months.

However, PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas recently issued a decree that extends the status of emergency in Judea and Samaria for another month.
