Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi on Wednesday night urged the government to take action following a rocket attack on his city.

"I expect the Prime Minister, the Defense Minister and the Chief of Staff to mercilessly strike the terror organizations. We will not tolerate continued firing at Sderot. Allowing rockets to ‘trickle’ is not a working plan,” said Davidi.

His comments came after at least three rockets were fired at Israeli territory from Gaza. The Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted two of the rockets. A third exploded in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council.

United Hatzalah said that its volunteers were treating several residents of Sderot for shock following the rocket attack. Another man who suffered injuries when he fell while running to a shelter was treated as well.

Meanwhile, the defense establishment announced on Wednesday night that it has decided to shut down the Kerem Shalom and Erez border crossings between Gaza and Israel starting on Thursday.

The decision was made in the wake of the recent rocket fire from Gaza towards southern Israel.

At least 13 rockets have been fired at Israel from Gaza since U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement that he would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel last Wednesday.

On Monday night, rocket sirens were heard in the Ashkelon and Hof Ashkelon regions in southern Israel at around 11:30.

Shortly thereafter, the Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted two rockets that fired from Gaza towards the area. No physical injuries or damages were reported.

The IDF later attacked positions belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in northern Gaza, saying it “considers the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for what is happening in Gaza.”

On Tuesday, a rocket from Gaza was fired towards southern Israel, exploding in an open area. No physical injuries or damages were reported.

The IDF later attacked a military compound belonging to Hamas in southern Gaza.
