Former Likud MK Moshe Feiglin has registered a new party, Zehut – the Hebrew word that means “identity.”

Feiglin left Likud after suffering a defeat in the primaries, which he blamed on foul play by Likud chairman Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

The Registrar of Parties has officially registered Zehut after over 500 people signed on as founders and contributed cash to enable the registration.

The party staff said that in the entire political history of the state of Israel, “there has never been an amazing process like this, in which the public was asked to partner in founding a party and even in funding the process.”

"There are no financiers and tycoons standing behind the move, and everything was done with transparency and openness, by means of contributions from the public. Hundreds of contributions were collected in a short time and the necessary sum was attained, with the biggest contribution reaching only 500 shekels.”

Zehut intends to hold a conference of all of the founders in the coming weeks, in which the party's constitution will be ratified. Ahead of the next national elections, the party will hold primaries to select its chairman and the Knesset list.
