The Likud party responded on Friday afternoon to the resignation of Health Minister Yaakov Litzman over the railway work on Shabbat.

"Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu very much appreciates Minister Yaakov Litzman and hopes that he will not resign from the government. The heads of the factions made it clear that they do not intend to leave the coalition, which would make it possible to formulate an optimal solution that would preserve both the Sabbath and the public's needs for safe and continuous transportation," said the party.

"The nationalist government headed by Netanyahu, in its current composition, is the best government for the people of Israel in all spheres. The prime minister is working to find a solution that will enable the government to continue its term as a strong and stable government."
