In the wake of new evidence provided by the Shin Bet regarding events at Umm al-Hiran ten months ago, State Prosecutor Shai Nitzan has ordered the investigation reopened.
A sensitive and classified document has caused a dramatic debate among law enforcement authorities regarding the investigation. The Police Commissioner told law authorities that the Internal Investigations department of police had removed from the investigation file the Shin Bet document and for this reason the investigation has been reopened.
The original decision of Internal Investigations was that police acted correctly and shot Yakoub Abu Alkeyan thinking that he was a terrorist.
