Rabbi Pesach Lerner, the former vice president of the Young Israel organization in the US and the president of the Coalition for Jewish Values in the US, deplored the criticism of Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely regarding US Jewry.
Lerner said that there is already a schism with US Jewry since liberal Jews don't understand the situation in Israel and think they know what is good for it. They think two-state solutions will work even though [Labor leader] Avi Gabbay has understood that it is not a realistic solution.
Lerner said that the 70% of Reform and Conservative Jews are married to gentiles and don't care about Israel or Jews in general. Their temples are empty on Shabbat unless there is a Bar Mitzva.
