Responding to complaints from the public, Member of Knesset Aliza Lavie (Yesh Atid) has asked the Interior Ministry to explain why the mikveh [ritual bath -ed.] fee for women in the predominantly haredi-religious city of Bnei Brak has recently gone from 15-20 shekels to 47 shekels while the fee for men has remained at three shekels.

Noting that mikveh use is a commandment incumbent on women and not on men, MK Lavie told Arutz Sheva that this is an unprecedented scandal, "especially in a city like Bnei Brak where the population is mostly observant and does not have a high income."
