Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev (Likud) has announced to mayors of peripheral cities that all communities with a socioeconomic classification between 1 and 6 will receive full funding for meaningful cultural events in their cities this year.

The money will come from the designated cultural fund.

"Until now only those who succeeded in filling out a submission received festivals. Sadly, it was precisely the weaker cities in the periphery that did not manage to fill out the complicated and intricate form. I have decided to put an end to this, and I have designated funds for festivals. In 2016, every city will have an overflowing and exciting cultural festival that does not take away from the cultural festivals citizens in richer cities in central Israel enjoy," said Regev.
