In a plan that was originally scheduled to take place during the Chanukah festival, the Jerusalem municipality will open a large temporary ice-skating rink at the old Jerusalem train station. The rink will be open from March 13th until the end of the month of Adar (March 29th this year).

“The ice-skating rink is a one-time project, which, if successful, will be repeated annually,” said Jerusalem Sports Department head Zion Turgeman.

Until now, Jerusalem’s skaters have had to make due with a small wax-skating rink on the second floor of a building on downtown Histadrut Street. Israel’s Ice Hockey Federation is reportedly working to attract investors for a permanent ice-skating rink in the capital.

A similar temporary rink was set up in Tel Aviv last year and was swamped by eager hordes of skaters. A permanent rink is scheduled to be opened there next year.

The “Adar” skating rink, accessed from Hevron Road and Rakevet Street, will be open from 10 AM until 11 PM from March 13-15 from 2 PM to 11 PM, March 16-29 - from 10 AM to 2 PM on Friday and 7:30 PM to midnight Saturday night. Admission will be free on Purim and cost 30 shekels the rest of the time.

Figure skating shows will take place on Tuesday (Purim for those outside Jerusalem) at noon, 4 PM and 7 PM. Jerusalem residents can call 106 for more information.
