Rabbi Yehuda Koldetzky was 94 years old, had tens of thousands of students - and was said to have been able to remember the names and years of study of all of them.
Rabbi Koldetzky, a student of the famed Rabbi Shimon Shkop, headed the Yishuv HaChadash high school for 55 years. Named for the late Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, Rabbi Avigdor Amiel, the Yishuv is considered the flagship of hareidi-religious yeshiva high schools.
Former Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, who now serves as Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, said, "He brought up many important rabbis and rabbinical judges, as well as public figures who are active in all areas of life. With his passing, the spiritual city of Tel Aviv and the Torah world have lost a major figure."
