The first attack occurred shortly after noon. The two terrorists arrived on foot at the gas station, and began shooting. The victim, 48-year-old Eldad Abir, died of his wounds shortly afterwards. Abir leaves a wife and two kids, the younger one three years old.
The same road was the scene of large-scale stoning attacks Tuesday.
In another attack, an Israeli was shot in the neck near the entrance to Nebi Alias, east of Kfar Saba. The Arabs shot from a passing vehicle. A Magen David Adom team rushed to the scene, and the seriously-wounded victim was treated at the site.
In Migdalim, emergency medical teams hurried to the scene, and security forces began to comb the area for the terrorists. A helicopter took to the air, and roadblocks have been set up in the area.
Yesterday, an Arab terrorist would-be murderer wounded two bystanders at the main Gush Etzion junction before he was shot. He ran over to the bus stop with a knife and managed to stab two people, and was then shot by a soldier. A 17-year-old girl was lightly wounded, and a 25-year-old Jewish man from the B'nei Menashe community was more seriously hurt.
Earlier Tuesday, two Arabs who admitted they intended to stab Jews were caught with knives. One was caught near Hevron's Tomb of the Patriarchs, and the other was apprehended outside Rachel's Tomb, in Bethlehem.
Yesha Council head Bentzy Lieberman said, "We have returned to the days before Operation Defensive Shield [of Spring 2002, when the IDF initiated a massive battle against terrorists of the Palestinian Authority - ed.], days of total security lawlessness with immediate ramifications on Israeli citizens."
Lieberman said that the thinning out of IDF forces in Judea and Samaria means "unleashing the Hamas monster, and an immediate threat on local Jewish residents."
In January 2005, two terrorists fired from a hill overlooking the same Tapuach-Jordan Valley highway near Migdalim, and hit four soldiers dressed in civilian clothing for their Sabbath off from the army. One soldier, Sgt. Yossi Atiya, 21, from Petach Tikva, was killed, and another - 2nd Lt. Ariel Bodah, 21, of Tel Aviv - died of his wounds nine months later.
In response to the attacks, the Efrat and Gush Etzion action committees called for the immediate resignation of regional IDF Commander Yair Naveh. "The same Naveh who deployed thousands of troops in Amona in order to break the bones of Jewish youth, has reduced the number of soldiers assigned to defend the Gush Etzion Junction from Arab terrorists," said action committee member Nadia Matar of Women in Green. "We are paying in blood and Yair Naveh must go home."
MK Tzvi Hendel (National Union) said, "This attack is the result of the supportive wind that was given to terrorism. The polls that show that Kadima will win the election encourage and push the terrorists to commit more attacks."
In Gaza today, an Islamic Jihad terrorist was killed in an explosion. The IDF said it did not carry out any air attacks in the area at the time.
