The two-month old infant is reported to be in moderate condition.

The infant was evacuated to Soroka Hospital in Beersheva on Friday by his grandfather. The child’s father and uncle, and a pregnant woman, who were lightly wounded in the attack, were evacuated to Barzilai hospital in Ashkelon.

All of the wounded are members of the Amar family. The Amars are refugees from Gush Katif, the region in Gaza destroyed by the Israeli government under the Disengagement Plan last August. The family has been living in a temporary dwelling in Kibbutz Carmia since they were forcibly evicted from their home in Gush Katif.

After the incident, the family told the press that the injuries were the direct result of the government’s failure to adequately protect homes in the western Negev. That area has become increasingly subject to Kassam rockets fired by Arab terrorists in Gaza since Israel withdrew from the district last August.

The Amar family, as well as other Gush Katif refugees evacuated to temporary dwellings in Kibbutz Carmia, are asking the government for help to relocate them to places in Israel out of the range of Kassam rockets.

Labor party chairman, Amir Peretz, who visited Osher in the hospital, criticized the government of Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for failing to protect homes in the western Negev. He said, “The time has come for Olmert to come out of his protected shelter and start moving to provide residents adequate shelters.”

A Kassam rocket also fell Friday on the Ashkelon industrial zone, causing some damage. That attack was followed Friday night by third Kassam which exploded in Kibbutz Nir Am. No damage or casualties were reported.

The IDF responded to the attacks by firing shells into northern Gaza.

An IDF soldier wounded Friday in a Hezbollah attack on Har Dov on the Lebanon border is in moderate and stable condition at Rambam Hospital in Haifa.

The soldier was wounded in an exchange of fire with Hezbollah terrorists, after being hit by shrapnel. The air force responded by striking Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon.
