(Sept.11- 07:28) Two border policemen were killed and a third wounded in a terrorist attack early this morning on the road north of Kibbutz Bahan, inside Green Line Israel, not far from PA-controlled Tul Karem. Emergency medical service personnel in Bat Chafer were paged shortly after 12:30am, receiving reports of a shooting attack in the area.
The two border policemen were critically wounded by terrorist gunfire from close range and pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical service personnel after it was realized that resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. The wounded victim was transported to Hillel Yafeh Hospital in Hadera where he is reported to be in light condition.
Unlike recent attacks in which terrorists fired at Israeli motorists on the area road, the gunfire in this latest attack was directed at the gate of the border police base. Police theorize that since the number of Jewish motorists on the area road following recent fatal attacks has diminished significantly, the terrorists opted to fire at the base to ensure they do not accidentally fire at an Israeli Arab motorist with the same yellow license plates as Jewish motorists.
This latest fatal attack occurred in the same area where on Thursday (Sept. 6), IDF Lt. Erez Merhavi, 21, of Moshav Tarum, was killed in a terrorist shooting attack on the road between Kibbutz Bahan and Erez, not far from Baka el-Garbiye. Seriously wounded in the attack was Lt. Limor Vishnia, 21, of Kibbutz Ein HaNativ.
