More than 4,000 Ukrainian Jews gathered at the National Palace \"Ukraine\" last week to express their support for the State of Israel and to mark the coming holidays (Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot). The event featured the Michael Touretsky Jewish Choir, speeches by Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Anna Azari and Israeli Knesset Members, and greetings from the municipal leadership of the city of Kiev. Kiev Chief Rabbi Moshe Reuveni Azman recited a prayer for the prosperity of the people of Israel and Ukraine.
Mr. Vadim Rabinovich, President of the All-Ukrainian Jewish Congress and United Jewish Community of Ukraine, who organized the event, called upon the Jews of Ukraine to take an active role in the democratic reforms underway in Ukraine, and to support the people of Israel in their current struggle. Eyewitnesses reported the popular impression that this was the most impressive Jewish event in the ten years since the rebirth of Jewish life in independent Ukraine.
