An apparent terrorist bombing was foiled yesterday afternoon when a taxi driver spotted a suspicious bag on Paul Street in Nazareth. Police and bomb squad technicians arrived and found a moderately sized bomb in the bag; they detonated it in a controlled manner without incident. Police investigators believe that the bomb was meant to be picked up by a terrorist for use in a bombing elsewhere in the country. Last night, soldiers apprehended two Arabs who infiltrated from Gaza northwards into the Ashkelon region. The Arabs were taken for interrogation in a GSS installation.

In another preventative action, the IDF has ringed and cut off two Arab villages in the Gilboa region, following specific intelligence warnings of an intended terrorist attack in that area.

In a retaliatory raid for last week’s fatal shooting of Lt. Erez Merhavi, Israel Air Force helicopter gun-ships destroyed an empty Fatah-Tanzim office in Ramallah yesterday. Also destroyed during the weekend was a building used by PLO terrorists to launch attacks on motorists on the road to Netzarim in the Gaza district.
