A large-scale Zekher L\'Hakhel (pronounced hok-hel) ceremony will be held on Chol HaMoed Sukkot (October 4) at the Western Wall. The event will recall the Biblical commandment to gather the entire Jewish nation in Jerusalem once every seven years for a public Torah reading and reminder to \"hear, study, fear G-d, and fulfill the Torah\'s commandments\" (based on Deut. 31, 12). President Moshe Katzav will read aloud from the Torah, symbolically recalling the public reading by the King of Israel. A similar ceremony was held 14 years ago, but was downsized seven years ago. Many Hakhel-related events will take place in Jerusalem and the rest of the country throughout the year, which has been declared the Year of Hakhel by the Official Ceremonies and Symbols Committee.
