Lt. Erez Merhavi, 23, who was murdered in an Arab drive-by shooting near Kibbutz Bachan last night, was buried this afternoon in Jerusalem\'s Mt. Herzl Military Cemetery. The murder occurred in pre-1967 Israel, on a road that passes between two Israeli-Arab villages between Netanya and north-central Shomron. Lt. Limor (bat Irit) Vishniah of Kibbutz Ein HaNetziv was seriously wounded in the same shooting; her condition is now listed in a Hadera hospital as moderate-to-serious. The IDF continues to encircle Tul Karem, the PA-controlled city to where the murderers escaped.
Arabs in Gaza resumed their night-long gunfire at homes in Gush Katif, and this morning damaged one of the Jewish houses. Palestinians also shot at nearby IDF outposts this morning and last night. There were no injuries. Other attempted terrorist murders occurred last night in the IDF\'s Tarkumiya Checkpoint in the Southern Hevron Hills, near Tekoa in eastern Gush Etzion, and on Mt. Gerizim in Shomron.
Also last night, the northern Jerusalem Pisgat Ze\'ev was the site of two brazen Palestinian attacks. In one, a Jerusalem motorist was lightly burned when her car was firebombed near Hizme. A burst of automatic gunfire was also directed at homes in the neighborhood; bullet marks were identified on one of the buildings. The latter was the first such attack in Pisgat Ze\'ev. Security in the capital remained high today, as the police deployed 270 extra soldiers and policemen.
