An internal Labor Party committee has begun investigating complaints by the Binyamin Ben-Eliezer camp against the unofficial results of this past Tuesday\'s election. As of now, Knesset Speaker Avraham Burg leads Ben-Eliezer by 1,088 votes, a margin of about 1.5%. The latter\'s lawyers maintain that the Druze sector results were contrived, and they demand a revote in those polling stations. Burg\'s camp demands that the official results be announced today.

Labor Elections Committee Chairman Effie Shtentzler recommended this afternoon that the votes of all 527 polling stations be recounted, because of the various accusations against stolen votes. Shtentzler said, \"There is an attempt to blemish two entire sectors - the Druze and the Arab - with the complaints about illegal voting practices. A recount would remove the stains from our colleagues.\" It does not appear, however, that this proposal will have a majority in the committee.

Likud MK Ayoub Kara, who himself is a Druze, told Arutz-7 his view of the situation: \"I think that the Druze sector is very supportive of Ben-Eliezer, and there was simply a small group of hacks who ran the campaign for Burg and went to all lengths to steal the election. The problem is that they made the margin too wide - if they would have made it 60% for Burg instead of 80%, maybe no one would have realized what happened…\"
