Three weeks after Arab terrorists murdered six Israelis who were shopping in Hadera’s open air market, the government has decided to ease restrictions on Arabs living under Palestinian Authority rule in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza.
The measures were adopted to bolster the popularity of PA chief Mahmoud Abbas, (Abu Mazen), ahead of PA general elections scheduled for January.
Defense officials are concerned that Abbas’ ruling Fatah party might lose ground to the Hamas, an Islamic terror organization that openly advocates the destruction of Israel. Despite Israeli objections, Hamas will be fielding candidates in the upcoming election
.
Fatah’s military wing, the Al Aksa Brigades, has also recently endorsed the destruction of the Jewish State, publicly echoing Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's call to “wipe Israel off the map.”
In accordance with the government’s policy vis-a-vis Abbas, the following measures were approved:
Judea and Samaria
· 8000 Arabs will be permitted to work in Israel’s pre-1967 borders.
· 1000 Arabs will be allowed to work at the Atarot industrial zone in Jerusalem.
· 7000 Arab businessmen will be allowed into Israel’s pre-1967 borders.
· 1700 Arabs working for international organizations will be allowed into Israel’s pre-1967 borders, and to travel to the Gaza district.
Gaza
