Thirteen persons were wounded, one very critically, in a Tuesday morning suicide bombing attack in downtown Jerusalem on HaNeve’im Street, in proximity of Bikur Cholim Hospital.

At about 7:45-50am, two border policemen were alerted to a suspicious bearded male with a yarmulke (kippa) on his head. As the two began to cautiously approach the suspect, he noticed them closing in and detonated a powerful bomb inside a large bag he was carrying when they were about four meters (yards) from him. One of the border policemen was critically wounded and after being stabilized in Bikur Cholim, was transported to the trauma unit of Hadassah Hospital. The second is described in light condition in Bikur Cholim Hospital, with shrapnel and puncture wounds from the bolts and nails contained in the bomb.

A total of 13 persons were wounded but as is the case in these types of attacks, ‘walking wounded’ are expected in Bikur Cholim during the coming hours, persons that begin feeling anxiety and other related symptoms from being in the blast area. One of the wounded is described in moderate-to-serious condition while the reminder moderate and light. Bikur Cholim has established an emergency information number, 12-55-123.

The latest attack was the fifth bombing in the capital in 24 hours. In four bomb attacks on Monday, seven persons were treated for shock and anxiety. The location of this morning’s attack was about one block from Sbarro Restaurant that is being remodeled following the August 9th suicide bombing attack that claimed 15 lives and wounded 132.
