Frequencies between of 5150 and 5350mhz will be allocated for this purpose, in addition to improved conditions in a 2.4ghz zone that was given over to public use two years ago.

The Ministry of Communications has also announced that this decision will facilitate the growth of broadband media and the use of advanced wireless technology (such as LAN-W and WI-FI) in sophisticated personal computers, mirroring similar technology used in other developed countries. The new range of frequencies is set to triple the number of frequencies currently available to the public. It will also improve communications between computer networks at airports, shopping malls and cafes, even in distant locations, without needing cables or expensive broadcasting equipment.

Minister Dalia Itzik stated, “The allocation of the new frequency zones is a main condition for the development of competition within the field of communications, and is one of the main objectives of the Communications Ministry.”

The requirements for using and obtaining equipment for broadcasting on the new frequencies will be based on existing conditions in Europe and United States, adapted for use in Israel. The Ministry of Communications is currently working on presenting these conditions to the general public.
