(Sept.3-06:27am) In a shooting attack late Sunday night at Ziff Junction, in the Southern Hevron Hills area, Beit Yatir resident Ron Schecner was wounded by two gunshots to his chest. He was transported to the emergency room of the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba where doctors report he underwent emergency surgery. He is reported in light condition this morning.

Elsewhere, on the road between Abu Gosh and Nataf, a motorist was lightly injured by terrorist gunfire. Fifteen shots were fired with four striking the vehicle. The motorist escaped with light injuries.

In the capital, two bombs exploded during the night. A bomb was detonated in a courtyard on HaEtzel Street in the French Hill neighborhood of Jerusalem close to midnight. There were no injuries. Police theorize the device was intended to detonate this morning. A second bag believed to contain another bomb was found inside a building lobby, leading to the evacuation of the building. Building residents told police they thought the bomb might have been intended for an Arab resident who is a known informant.

Later in the pre-dawn hours, a small bomb exploded under a truck on Carol Neter Street in the Maalot Daphne neighborhood of the capital. There were no injuries. Police are investigating.

The heightened alert against terror attacks continues nationwide with an emphasis being placed on Jerusalem and Haifa areas based on intelligence community reports. The opening of the new school year on Sunday has security agencies increasingly concerned; fearing terrorists may target a school building.

Police continue to urge all residents not to hesitate to report anything or anyone that appears suspicious, pointing out that vigilant citizens have thwarted many terror attacks in the past.
