Yediot Acharonot, Israel's largest daily, reports that the nine-meter-long (30-foot) "Protector" boat is undergoing final tests before being put into action.
The vessel can reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers (43 miles) per hour, and is fitted with a radar system, target-identifying cameras and a light machine-gun.
Israel has long used drones, or pilot-less planes, to seek out - and sometimes attack - wanted terrorists and explosives labs. Boats operating on a similar principle will enable Israel to patrol the seas, especially off Gaza, without endangering its forces.
