Sasha Parsons Solomon of Orinda, California arrived in Israel last week to continue her studies in Biology at Haifa University. She had been at Loyola for just four days when she was ordered to evacuate due to the looming storm - leaving all her belongings.
The University of Haifa has now put Solomon up in the student dormitories on campus free of charge and given her a year of study tuition-free. It is not the 19-year-old's first time in the Jewish State - she participated in a ten day trip to Israel with birthright Israel last January.
Although Solomon is Jewish, University of Haifa spokespeople emphasized that the university's aid offer was available to any of the students regardless of religion.
