Arutz-7's Haggai Huberman reports that Shimoni served as head of the Gaza Coast Regional Council during its most difficult period - the past four years. He was the fourth person to serve in this position, following Reuven Rosenblatt, Tzvi Hendel and Araleh Tzur.

Shimoni now lives in Kibbutz Ein Tzurim, near one of the sites being prepared as a carvilla site for the expelled Gush Katif residents. He declined to speak with Arutz-7 today, but promised an interview tomorrow.

The position of the Yesha Council Director has been unfilled for the past six months, ever since Yehoshua Mor-Yosef resigned to become, relatively briefly, Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom's press advisor. Prior to Mor-Yosef, Adi Mintz of Dolev served as the Council's Director-General.
