The girls were arrested during anti-expulsion protests in northern Samaria. Government prosecutors earlier this week offered the girls improved conditions for their release from jail. They refused after one of the girls was separated from their Maasiyahu jail and transferred to the N'vei Tirtzah prison.
During a Friday morning hearing, their lawyer told the judge that a jail guard had slapped one of the girls and that they were afraid of further violence. Judge Liroa Brori did not relate to the incident, according to the girls' attorney, Kamir Doron.
One girl told the judge, "I request to add that the real trial date is in one month and all of us will be on trial [Rosh HaShanah - the Day of Judgment]. The country is the criminal and not us." She added that a court which rules according to Jewish law would conclude they did not transgress any law.
The mother of one of the girls complained that her daughter passed through an electronic inspection, but guards forced her to strip even though the detector did not signal that she was carrying any metal objects. The guard threatened her with violence if she did not undress, but did not carry out the inspection after the other girls protested, the mother added.
