Oleg Sotnikov, 35, a truck driver from Ashdod, was murdered by Arab terrorists in Area B (under Israeli security control and PA administrative control) late this morning. The attack occurred along a road used solely by Arabs; it is situated off the main route connecting Kedumim and Shavei Shomron, west of Shechem. The murderers may have been alerted by local villagers that, in departure from normal practice, the driver of the gas truck was not an Israeli-Arab. After shooting at the driver and observed the resulting crash, the terrorists approached the vehicle, removed the driver from the cabin, and finished the job with additional gunshots. Arutz-7\'s Kobi Finkler reports that it is not clear why he went to such an area without a guard and without prior coordination with the army or local civilian security personnel.
Several hours earlier, an Arab motorist was killed and two were lightly injured when their car was attacked on the Anatot road, towards Mishor Adumim east of Jerusalem. Magen David Adom medics transported the injured to the Hadassah-Ein Karem hospital in Jerusalem. The vehicle had Palestinian Authority license plates, and initial police evaluations were therefore that the attack was carried out by Jews. An anonymous message claimed that it was in vengeance for the Arab terrorist murder of Elon Moreh resident Hillel Lieberman, one year ago. However, the fact that correspondents received the message after news of the attack became public placed its authenticity in doubt, and a police official said that all avenues of investigation are open. The Council of Judea, Samaria and Gaza Communities denounced the attack, stating, “murder is murder… attacks on innocents are forbidden, regardless of whether they are Jews or Arabs.”
