(Aug. 27 – 23:22) Rabbi Meir Lixenberg, 38, of the Shomron community of Itamar, has been identified as the latest victim of the ongoing PA Oslo War.
The father of five became the eighth victim of Islamic terrorism in the past 60 hours and the 165th victim of the PA’s Oslo War since September 29, 2000. The vehicle that Lixenberg was traveling in was attacked shortly after 5:00pm between the communities of Elon Moreh and Itamar. Authorities believe the gunfire originated in the PA village of Beit Fourik. Three bullets struck the car.
In other areas, the PA warfare continues. Shrapnel in a shooting attack directed against his vehicle lightly wounded a resident of Kedar, near Abu Dis. Two bullets struck the vehicle. The victim did not require transport to a hospital.
At this time, a stormy quiet prevails in the southern Jerusalem neighborhoods of Gilo and Har Homa. A 62-year-old male resident of Gilo was shot in his shoulder and is undergoing emergency surgery in Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem. He is listed in light condition. Five homes and a synagogue have been hit in Gilo. The Minharot (Tunnel) road remains closed as a result of the gunfire, cutting off the main vehicular artery between the southern capital and the Gush Etzion bloc. Soldiers at nearby Rachel’s Tomb were also attacked by gunfire. No injuries.
High-level military sources have indicated that the military is preparing for a ground force incursion into Beit Jala in the hope of bringing the frequent shooting attacks to an end. Tanks were firing at Beit Jala earlier in the night.
A motorist was wounded lightly-to-moderately in a shooting attack near Moshav Roglit in the Emek Ayala region on the Green Line ‘border’ in the Beit Shemesh area. The attack occurred inside Green Line Israel, on the route known as a ‘safe passage’ road when the Tunnel road is closed due to gunfire. The victim was reported to have been hit in the hand and calf. He is a 50-year-old resident of Efrat.
The Shomron community of Beit Choron that borders Route 443, the Jerusalem-Modi’in road, was targeted by gunfire earlier tonight resulting in the closure of the main vehicular artery for a period of time. There were no injuries.
A bomb was detonated near Tapuach Junction in the Shomron in the PA village of Chawara…. A military vehicle was attacked with gunfire near Shechem…. Shooting was reported in northern Gaza. No injuries.
Military commanders in the Shomron have issued a travel advisory on Monday night. The advisory calls on anyone not having to travel to please avoid doing so, especially on Route 60, the main north-south route. Those motorists traveling should do so in convoys and only if armed.
In addition, community security officers have been placed on increased alertness in light of intelligence community information pointing to a planned infiltration into a Jewish community by terrorists.
