Dozens of policeman, reinforcing IDF troops in the community, arrested Livnat, despite the heated opposition of community residents.

Livnat was arrested for allegedly violating a military order preventing him from being present in Gush Katif.

Police investigators and detectives began the hunt for Livnat in the early afternoon. After Livnat was seized, he was brought to a police car where police clashed with area residents who surrounded the vehicle. Police forced the residents away, but clashes continued until Livnat himself asked residents to let the car drive away. No other residents were arrested.

Livnat, who is confined to a wheel chair due to injuries suffered in the IDF, is the founder of an anti-expulsion group called “Defensive Shield”. Defensive Shield is dedicated to encouraging IDF soldiers to refuse orders to forcibly expel Jewish residents from Gush Katif and northern Samaria.
