Nine mortar rockets struck the Jewish communities of Gush Katif within a period of a few minutes this afternoon. Although the army no longer announces the exact locations that were hit, in order not to provide information that would aid the Arabs in their offensive activities, it was reported that several of the rockets hit the N\'vei Dekalim area. One person was lightly hurt. Today\'s attack follows a similar burst of eleven mortar rockets that hit Gush Katif communities last night, after a week of a small reduction in such attacks.
In response, Israel Air Force combat helicopters rocketed the PA para-military police headquarters in Khan Yunis, Gaza. Earlier, an Israeli tank fired two shells and destroyed a nearby Palestinian position from where mortar shells had been fired at Israeli targets.
Forty-six new reinforced room/buildings are scheduled to arrive in the area tonight, for the use of educational institutions. Previous bursts of mortar fire have in fact landed in or near school grounds. Gaza Coast Regional Council head Aharon Tzur told Arutz-7 today that there are still some aspects of the shipment that must still be ironed out:
\"MK Mossi Raz (Meretz),\" he said, \"who is a respected Knesset Member, and who carried out his job well as a military commander in this area several years ago - sometimes acts in a bit of a burdensome way on certain matters. For instance, we have an ad calling for people to come to Gush Katif because here is where they will find \"Zionism and vision\" - and yet Raz has caused its broadcast to be held up because he claims that those terms are \'political\' and \'controversial!\' I almost fainted when I heard this... In addition, regarding these 46 new security rooms, he is insisting that a corresponding amount of caravans be removed from Gush Katif, so that there should not, Heaven forbid, be any growth in our towns! His true intention is that there should not be any schools, or children, or Jews at all in Gush Katif!\"
Tzur noted that throughout Gush Katif, 1,170 security rooms are still needed. Nearby Kibbutz Nachal Oz, on the other hand, which lies on the other side of the Green Line and which was hit by a minuscule amount of mortar rockets compared to Gush Katif, has received special funding that would suffice to build 140 security rooms.
