The program, called “Maestro," integrates the technologies of data recovery with speech recognition in order to enable the execution of Internet searches using a microphone and loudspeaker attached to one’s personal computer.
According to a Globes report, Maestro, which was developed under the direction of Dr. Meirav Taieb-Maimon, in consultation with Dr. Bracha Shapira, is an application installed on an ordinary personal computer that enables spoken queries to be taken as free-text dictation.
The project began due to concerns about maximizing safety as motor vehicles become increasingly connected to the Internet. "It's inevitable," Taieb-Maimon told Israel21c, a news service that highlights Israel’s technological advances. "With more and more people now working out of the office and trying to be productive as they travel, these kinds of systems are being developed and used. People want to use their driving time to work."
After a search has been dictated, the results may be heard either as a list of websites or by subject. Using voice commands, the user can navigate to the desired site, and listen to its content – all while keeping both hands on the steering wheel and both eyes on the road.
