A 12-year-old girl from New Jersey, combining her love for both Israel and soccer, has come up with a generous way to express both: She donated her Bat Mitzvah gift money to form a girls soccer team in the Ofakim region in the Negev. Rachel Schneider, of Metrowest, New Jersey, together with her parents, contributed the resources, and the 25 girls chosen for the new team have already begun practicing. Rachel herself arrived last week to take part in the training camp. The team will compete against other teams from around Israel, and will eventually also challenge the Metrowest girls\' team - for which their sponsor Rachel plays. The Ofakim-Merchavim region is twinned with Metrowest as part of the Jewish Agency’s Partnership 2000 project.
