A top Islamic Jihad terrorist, recently reported to have "escaped" from Palestinian Authority custody, was killed Monday by Israeli forces who came to re-arrest him.

The headline on the story as it was reported for the English press by the official Palestinian Authority news agency, WAFA, was "IOF Kills Citizen, Arrests 3 Others in WB." As in the title, the text of the report makes no mention of the "citizen" having been an Islamic Jihad terrorist who escaped from PA custody last week.

Also unreported was the death of an Israeli soldier and the wounding of another in the operation.

WAFA reported the fugitive Islamic Jihad terrorist's death thus: "Israeli soldiers shot dead Monday Palestinian father of four children in the village of Saida, north of the West Bank (WB) city of Tulkarem, medics and witnesses said."

The image created for the readers of the English-language PA report is one of random Israeli murder: "Witnesses told WAFA that Abdulghani was killed when Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) rumbled into the village under random and intensive gunshots. The IOF swept the village and imposed curfew. The soldiers deployed in the streets, opening fire at houses, terrifying residents and preventing them from leaving their houses, according to witnesses."

Implied for the reader was that the Israeli aggression is a repeated pattern. The above description is immediately followed by this added piece of information: "Abdulghani's brother, Anwar, was also killed by IOF three years ago."

The report ends by expanding the created image of Israeli aggression to include "disappearances" in the style of South American or Arab dictatorships: "In the meantime, Israeli soldiers arrested 3 citizens in Bethlehem and they were led to an unknown place."
