This increase - including rocket fire, mortar shellings, shootings, infiltrations and mines - constitutes a blatant contravention of the ceasefire agreement, IDF sources note. In addition, a senior military officer said yesterday that the Gaza-area terrorist organizations have become impressively organized in their purchase and smuggling of weapons from Egypt and other unnamed sources.

In the last three weeks, Arab terrorists from the Palestinian Authority have fired five Kassam rockets, eight mortar shells and an anti-tank missile; 10 explosive devices have been uncovered and detonated, and gunfire targeted Israeli communities and IDF forces in over 30 different incidents. As a result of these attacks, an Israeli civilian was lightly wounded, an IDF non-commissioned officer and an IDF soldier were moderately wounded, and a third IDF soldier was lightly wounded.

In addition, eight attempted infiltrations across the Gaza region security fence were thwarted, involving 25 PA residents, who were handed over to General Security Services (GSS) for questioning.

In related news, the new head of the IDF Central District Command, Major General Yair Naveh, has ordered all IDF vehicles in his jurisdiction to undergo thorough quality checks, in order to prepare them for possible renewed widespread warfare with the Palestinian Authority. He ordered that the vehicles be equipped with the latest battle gear and armor.
